Hi All,

Thanks for the reminder - I need to book a flu jab appointment. Hope it's not the battle it turned into last year.

I was diagnosed with RA last spring, so last winter was first time I booked a flu jab with GP surgery. When I got there the practice nurse told me I was not eligible for it as I wasn't over 65. I told her I have a chronic condition where infection can result in a flare and that I take methotrexate and as such am immunosuppressed. She told me she knew I was on methotrexate and that there was nothing wrong with my immune system (Confused) . She did give me the jab, but it felt quite a battle at the time!!!

I've checked with my occupational health department at work about having flu vaccine there, but as soon as you mention RA and methotrexate they recommend you should have the vaccine at your GP surgery.

Very confusing!! Sad

Best wishes to all.

Hi Lottie,

You shouldn`t have to battle for your flu jab, and I think your practice nurse needs re-educating on the issue of immune-suppression! I think your work-place will advise going to the surgery for the jab as your GP ought to check you are infection-free etc. before giving the jab.

I`m on humira, and at my surgery I always have to get my jab from the GP, even though the nurse is normally vaccinating people too.

hi Lottie,

as Kathleen says it shouldn't be a battle for the flu jab,

i recently saw a GP ( not my own one who know's all my history without looking at the screen ) at the Surgery .. and he said you're due for the flu jab and it flagged up on his computer,

i was also told when first diagnosed by my Rheumy Department.

age doesn't come into it, and again agree with Kathleen as you have a chronic condition i would get it done at your surgery rather than work.

Hi Kathleen and Suzanne,

Thank you so much for your messages which are very reassuring.

I'll get booked in at the GP surgery.

Thanks again!
